Woman arrested after registration violation leads to discovery of drugs

A woman from Carthage is facing drug charges after being pulled over for a registration violation.

“On December 4th, 2023, Detectives with the Moore County Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop at NC Highway 24/27 and U.S Highway 1 off ramp in Cameron,” said Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields in a statement issued to Sandhills Sentinel. “Detectives initiated the traffic stop due to a vehicle registration violation. During the traffic stop, Detectives conducted a search of the vehicle. During the search, Detectives located methamphetamine and items of drug paraphernalia which resulted in the passenger of the vehicle being arrested.”

Belinda Smith, 57, was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine, maintaining a vehicle, dwelling, or place to keep a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The suspect was given a written promise to appear in court on Jan. 4, 2024, and is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
