Woman arrested after shoplifting from Walmart

A 25-year-old woman from Raeford faces five charges after allegedly shoplifting at Walmart in Aberdeen.

Shannon Beard was arrested by Aberdeen Police on Saturday on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, misdemeanor larceny, injury to personal property, and possession of stolen goods.

Aberdeen Police Chief Brian Chavis announced his department responded to Walmart regarding a larceny in progress. Officers apprehended Beard as she left the garden center exit.

“Aberdeen Officers detained Beard while they investigated, and after reviewing video surveillance and obtaining witness statements, they were able to verify the crime had occurred and recover stolen property belonging to the business,” said Chavis in a press release. “Upon further investigation, officers located items containing methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia hidden on Beard’s person.”

Beard’s bond was set at $12,000. She is due in court on July 10 and is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
