Aberdeen man arrested for trafficking meth

A 50-year-old man from Aberdeen is behind bars after authorities pulled over his car during a traffic stop and found drugs, according to a news release from Southern Pines Police Deputy Chief Charles Campbell.

Dwayne Heflin is being held at the Moore County Detention Center after Southern Pines Police seized 226.7 grams of methamphetamine, 25 grams of cocaine and 3.7 grams of fentanyl on Tuesday.

Heflin was charged by Southern Pines Police Department for trafficking methamphetamine, felony possession of cocaine, possession of schedule II (fentanyl), felony maintaining a vehicle for sale of controlled substances and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The suspect was also charged by Moore County Sheriff’s Office for assaulting a female on March 14 which resulted in a $1,500 secured bond. His court date for the assault charge is on March 25.

Heflin is under a $25,000 secured bond for the drug charges, and he is due in court on April 1.

He was incarcerated for almost a year in 2008 and 2009 for possession of stolen goods, according to records with North Carolina Department of Public Safety.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
