Aberdeen man faces attempted forcible rape charge

An Aberdeen man is facing charges of felony attempted second-degree forcible rape, misdemeanor sexual battery and communicating threats.

Fifty-year-old James King was arrested in the early morning hours on Friday.

Officers with the Aberdeen Police Department were called to a home near Wayland and Stephanie streets for an active dispute and possible assault that had previously occurred.

“Upon arrival, officers were met by an adult female who was distraught about an argument she had with King,” said Aberdeen Police Chief Brian Chavis in a media release. “Officers spent several hours investigating, and during the course of the investigation, they spoke with a second adult female, who had an intellectual disability, who lived at the home. After receiving additional facts and statements from the victim and a witness, it was determined that King had attempted to sexually assault one of the females on multiple occasions.”

King was arrested on the scene.

According to jail records, the alleged crimes occurred on Nov. 27, 2024.

He was then taken before a Moore County magistrate, where he was given no bond due to a domestic hold, pending a hearing before a judge for pretrial release.
