Accident injures 5 at Midland Rd roundabout

The Midland Road roundabout in Southern Pines was the site of a rollover accident that left five people injured Monday night. The accident occurred at the Central Drive entrance to the traffic circle just before 8 p.m.

A Mercedes sedan struck a Toyota 4Runner causing it to flip upside down. When emergency crews arrived on the scene, they found one victim entrapped in the SUV. An additional rescue unit and EMS unit were called to the scene. Firefighters were able to safely extricate the victim from the vehicle.

Two occupants from the Mercedes and three occupants of the SUV were all transported to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Midland Road and Central Drive were shut down until the wreckage could be cleared.

Southern Pines Police are investigating the cause of the accident.

Responding to the scene were Southern Pines Fire & Rescue, More County EMS, and Southern Pines Police.
