Arrests made in connection to shooting, drug investigations

A multi-agency operation has yielded the arrest of four people in connection to shooting and drug investigations with the Southern Pines Police Department.

Southern Pines Police Department said in a press release that officers with the Southern Pines Police Department, with assistance from the Moore County Sheriff’s Office, the Pinehurst Police Department and agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), simultaneously executed three search warrants in Brookside Apartments on Friday, March 4.

“These search warrants were obtained as a result of an on-going investigation into recent shooting incidents and narcotics activity in Southern Pines,” said the Southern Pines Police Department. The shooting incidences that are under investigation occurred Oct. 1, 2021 through the present date, Southern Pines Police Chief Nick Polidori told Sandhills Sentinel.

After searching three apartments, investigators seized: one .40 caliber Glock handgun, one 10mm Glock handgun that was reported stolen, approximately 7 grams of cocaine, approximately 261 grams of marijuana, items of drug paraphernalia, firearms accessories and ammunition, and more than $2,200.

The Southern Pines Police Department arrested the following people:

Tavoris Little, of Southern Pines, was charged with possession with intent to sell/deliver cocaine, felony possession of cocaine, possession with intent to sell/deliver marijuana, felony possession of marijuana, possession of a stolen firearm and possession of drug paraphernalia. Little was held under a $50,000 secure bond in the Moore County Detention Center.

Namir Douglas, of Southern Pines, was arrested for outstanding arrest warrants in Cumberland County for felony breaking and/or entering, felony larceny after breaking and/or entering, possession of stolen property, felony conspiracy (two counts), robbery with a dangerous weapon and second-degree kidnapping. Douglas was held under a $15,000 secure bond in the Moore County Detention Center.

Siesta Nelums, of Southern Pines, was charged with maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances and simple possession of marijuana. Siesta Nelums received a $500 unsecured bond.

Nyasia Ellerbe, of Southern Pines, was charged with maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances. Nyasia Ellerbe was held under a $2,500 secure bond in the Moore County Detention Center.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven in a court of law.
