Boys & Girls Club of the Sandhills Youth of the Year meets Gov. Cooper

The Boys & Girls Club of the Sandhills 2023 Youth of the Year representative went to the governor’s mansion for the state Youth of the Year celebration.

Boys & Girls Club of the Sandhills Youth of the Year Ja’Torian Medley, Boys & Girls Club of the Sandhills CEO Steve Kastner, Boys & Girls Club of the Sandhills Operations Director Deon Allbrooks, and Baxter Teen Center Director German Bostic recently went to the North Carolina Youth of the Year celebration in Raleigh at the governor’s mansion with Gov. Roy Cooper, said Boys & Girls Club of the Sandhills on its Facebook page on Tuesday.

Although a youth from the Boys & Girls Club serving Wake County was awarded the 2023 North Carolina Youth of the Year, “Ja’Torian did an outstanding job representing the Boys & Girls of the Sandhills.”

Medley prepared for weeks over winter to meet all the criteria to be eligible for the Boys & Girls Club of the Sandhills 2023 Youth of the Year.

“The Boys & Girls Club of the Sandhills is not just a place for fun and games, but it is a safe place where I can be myself,” said Medley, who is a sophomore at Pinecrest High School, when he won the Boys & Girls Club of the Sandhills 2023 Youth of the Year. “The Club has helped me develop confidence, strength, and communication skills.”

Medley said he would like to own a business one day, possibly in real estate, and use the money that he makes to help those in need with safe and affordable housing.
