Businesses receive $24,500 in grants from Carthage Century Committee

The Carthage Century Committee recently awarded $24,500 in Carthage Downtown Revitalization Grants to eleven small businesses in the downtown area. These grants were made possible by a Hometown Revitalization Grant from the Duke Energy Foundation to help recognize small businesses’ value in creating vibrant downtowns.

Individual grants ranged from $1,300 to $2,345 and were awarded to the following downtown Carthage businesses:

  1. The Watering Can
  2. City Barber Shop
  3. Eliza Quinn Creates
  4. Matthew Rothbeind Attorney at Law
  5. James Epps Agency, Inc. (Nationwide)
  6. The Old Buggy Inn
  7. Limitless Meal Supply, LLC
  8. H & S Tire and Auto, LLC
  9. Lisa’s Boutique
  10. Heads Up Barber Shop
  11. The Soup Company

Recipients will use the grant funding to cover the costs of modifying physical space inside stores; acquiring new technology; installing awnings and blinds; painting storefront exteriors; and installing new signage and lighting. Award recipients can use grant funding to reimburse them for expenses already incurred after Jan. 1, 2022 or for projects they will complete before Dec. 31, 2023.

“Thank you so much for this award. We are proud to be in downtown Carthage and a part of any revitalization plans,” said attorney Matthew Rothbeind.

“We look forward to adding to the revitalization of Carthage and making The Old Buggy Inn the ‘shining star’ entering the historic section of our town. We appreciate the award,” said Scott Chase, co-owner of The Old Buggy Inn.

The Carthage Century Committee has played an active role in supporting Carthage businesses for many years. These grants are another example of their commitment to helping create a vibrant business community in Carthage.

“Our committee was originally created for the sole purpose of supporting economic activity in our town and we’ve worked diligently through the years to keep our downtown viable. These funds will greatly enhance our commitment to help today’s Carthage downtown small businesses grow and prosper,” said Pat Jackson, Carthage Century Committee Member.
