Car crashes into woods

Two people escaped injury in a single-vehicle accident Wednesday outside Carthage. Emergency units were dispatched around 7 p.m. to the accident on Highway 24-27 at the intersection with Highway 22.

When the first units arrived on the scene, they found a Toyota Avalon with heavy front-end damage approximately 75 feet off the roadway that had crashed through some small pine trees before coming to a stop against a larger pine tree.

The female occupant did not require treatment, and the male occupant was checked out by EMS at the scene but did not require transport to the hospital.

One lane of Highway 24-27 was shut down for a brief period of time while crews worked the scene and the vehicle could be removed.

N.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.

Responding units were Carthage Fire Department, Moore County EMS and Highway Patrol.
