Car flips in crash

On Tuesday morning in Vass, a Ford Focus overturned, resulting in the transportation of a minor to the hospital via EMS. Shortly before noon, first responders received a call alerting them to a vehicle that had lost control and rolled onto its roof with both occupants still inside on Aiken Road.

The vehicle, traveling east at the time, landed in an embankment near a tree line. The car sustained heavy damage, with deployed air bags and shattered windows. Deep treads were visible in the mud from where the driver had struggled to regain control of the car.

The wreck took place about a mile off U.S. 1 in a series of blind curves, with previous and ongoing inclement weather leaving the roads slick.

According to N.C. State Highway Patrol, there were two occupants in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

The cause of the crash was not given.

Despite the rain, first responders worked to clear stray debris from the road and reroute traffic around the crash scene until both lanes could safely be reopened.
