Children airlifted dog missing after accident

One adult and two children were injured in an accident Sunday around 11 a.m in Eagle Springs. The accident happened on Highway 211 at Sutphin Drive.

A Hyundai Sonata was traveling east attempting to turn left into a driveway across from Sutphin Drive when a Ford Escape rear-ended it sending the vehicle off the opposite side of the road where it came to a stop in a grassy area.

There was an adult and two children in the Hyundai. The female driver was checked out by EMS but did not require transport to a hospital. One child was initially unresponsive, but once emergency personnel arrived on the scene, she became awake and alert.

Two helicopters were called for the children to be taken to a trauma center, and a landing zone was set up in a field next to the scene. Their condition is unknown at this time.

The male driver of the Ford Escape was the only person in the vehicle. He was transported to Moore Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

There were two dogs in his vehicle. One of the dogs ran away from the scene right after the crash and has not been located at the time of this report. The other dog was taken to a veterinarian, but its condition is unknown.

Highway 211 was shut down for a short time until the vehicles could be removed and the road cleared. Traffic was diverted onto Flowers Road and Holly Grove School Road.

Highway Patrol was on scene investigating the accident.

Responding units were Eagle Springs fire Department, Seven Lakes Fire and Rescue, West End Fire and Rescue, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriffs Department, and State Highway Patrol
