Moore County Public Utilities requests that customers in all service areas voluntarily reduce water use by 20 percent due to the extended drought.
This includes Pinehurst, Seven Lakes, Vass, West End, Hyland Hills, and East Moore.
Water consumption has steadily increased over the past few months as the county remains in a D2-D3 Severe Drought classification. Higher demands strain the elevated storage tanks, which are also used for emergencies and fire protection. Implementing voluntary measures at this time to reduce unnecessary usage will help improve system reliability.
Recommended Stage 1 Voluntary Water Conservation measures include:
Check plumbing, faucets and toilets for leaks, and repair if necessary.
Limit lawn watering to only when grass shows signs of withering. Apply water as slowly as possible. Prevent water waste and runoff. Limit watering shrubbery to a minimum. Irrigate landscapes at a maximum of one (1) inch per week.
Use shower for bathing purposes and limit to five minutes when possible.
Refrain from running faucets while brushing teeth, shaving, or rinsing dishes.
Limit the use of clothes washers and dishwashers, and when used, operate fully loaded.
Limit car washing to a minimum. Limit washdowns of paved surfaces unless for health or safety reasons.
Use biodegradable dishes and utensils where feasible.
“We appreciate your cooperation during this period of dry weather conditions,” said the county in a news release. “We will continue monitoring every day and provide an update on July 10.”
