A man is facing a felony drug charge after allegedly dropping a bag of meth inside Aberdeen Walmart.
The case began on April 1 when Aberdeen officers were called to Walmart on a report of suspicious drug activity that eventually led to the arrest of 37-year-old Geoffrey Goebel of Rockingham.
“Upon arrival, officers were advised by staff members that a male subject, later identified as Goebel, had dropped a bag containing a white powdery substance inside the store,” said the police department in a press release. “Officers were directed towards Goebel, where he was detained while the incident was investigated. Officers were able to review video surveillance and confirm the sequence of events.”
The suspected narcotics were seized and submitted to the North Carolina State Crime Lab for testing. On June 19, the results of the suspected narcotics were returned and confirmed to be methamphetamine, said the department.
On June 25, officers obtained a warrant for Goebel for felony of possession of methamphetamine. Officers coordinated with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, who located Goebel in Richmond County. Goebel was taken before a Richmond County magistrate, where he was given a $5,000 secured bond.
All charges are allegations, and Goebel is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
