It’s official: the new Southern Pines Whataburger plans to open its doors to the public on June 18.
The restaurant is located in the Morganton South Shopping Center, across from Target and near recently opened retail additions, including Starbucks and BJ’s Wholesale Club.
“The celebration will begin on Thursday, June 18, at 8:30 a.m. with a grand opening and official ribbon-cutting ceremony welcoming guests, community members, and local leaders to celebrate the new restaurant,” said the restaurant in a news release. “Attendees can also enjoy giveaways throughout the morning, including swag bags and free Honey Butter Chicken Biscuits for the first 100 customers through the doors. Special guests are expected to include local school leaders and community organizations.”
Led by Operating Partner Trent Nichols, the new Southern Pines restaurant has created 100 local jobs and will serve guests 24 hours a day through its drive-thru and lobby service.
The Southern Pines location will also offer dine-in and online ordering options 24/7 through the Whataburger App, where guests can earn rewards, unlock exclusive offers, and stay up to date on announcements.
Founded in Texas and headquartered in San Antonio, Whataburger has expanded to more than 1,100 locations across 17 states, including North Carolina. Most of its restaurants operate 24 hours a day, except on Christmas Day.
“Whataburger is the hometown hamburger place that hasn’t compromised,” states the company on its website. “We serve original recipes made to order, just like you like it, and pride ourselves on our service to our customers and our communities.”
Whataburger’s menu centers on made‑to‑order burgers built with customizable toppings, including the chain’s signature Whataburger, the Double Meat Whataburger, and the Jalapeño & Cheese Whataburger. The lineup also includes patty melts, chicken sandwiches, chicken strips, salads, and a full breakfast menu featuring taquitos, biscuits, pancakes, and breakfast platters. Sides range from fries and onion rings to apple slices, and desserts include shakes, malts, and pies.
The brand is also known for its proprietary condiments, including Fancy Ketchup, Spicy Ketchup, and a range of original‑recipe sauces sold in grocery stores nationwide.
