Obituary for Curtis Lee Barbery of Robbins

Dr. Curtis Lee Barbery, devoted pastor and cherished family man, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2026, at the age of 92, surrounded by loved ones at FirstHealth Hospice and Palliative Care.

Born on May 28, 1934, in Greenville, South Carolina, Dr. Barbery dedicated his life to his faith and community. His educational journey took him through Columbia Bible College, Fruitland Bible College, and Luther Rye Seminary, where he nurtured his theological knowledge and pastoral skills. Over the years, he was honored with three honorary Doctorate Degrees from Covington Seminary, Grace Baptist College, and Gardner-Webb University, recognizing his lifelong commitment to spiritual leadership and education.

Dr. Barbery’s pastoral career spanned over sixty years, during which he served with unwavering devotion at several churches, including Emmanuel Baptist Church in Cayce, SC, Mount Pisgah Baptist Church in Candler, NC, Beulah Baptist Church in Bennett, NC, and Beulah Hill Baptist Church in Pinehurst, NC. His influence extended beyond these congregations as he conducted over 700 revival meetings, touching countless lives with his heartfelt sermons and guidance.

His leadership extended into various roles within the North Carolina Baptist community, serving as a respected member and chairman on numerous committees including the North Carolina State Convention, President of the North Carolina Baptist Pastor’s Conference, Chairman of the North Carolina Baptist Study Committee for Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute, Chairman for the Board of Directors for Fruitland, Member of the General Board, Board Member of the Executive Committee, Member of the Nominating Committee, Chairman of the Evangelism Committee, and the Chairman for the Budget Committee. His steadfast commitment to his faith and the Baptist community earned him great respect and admiration.

Dr. Barbery is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 69 years, Ollie Mae Moree Barbery, his parents, Andrew Jackson and Jessie Moon Barbery and his brother, Tenzell Barbery.

He leaves behind a rich legacy through his children: Chyrie Moore and husband, Victor; Debra Glisson and husband, Jim; Terry Barbery and wife, Sherry; Marcia Hendrick and husband, Jim; and David Barbery and wife, Kelli. His grandchildren, Matthew Moore; Jordan Moore; Ashlyn Kincaid and husband, Abel; Jessica Moore and husband, Scott; Lee Moffitt; Cassie Coco and husband, Jeremy; Brian Glisson and wife Kelly; Amanada Grantham and husband, Jared; Dr. Bryant Barbery and wife, Lauren; Torry Barbery and fiancé, Oakley Cockman; Hollie Smith and husband, Roddey; Hannah Kearns and husband, Joseph; Helena Gunther and husband, Edmond; Tiffany Barbery; Tyler Boyette and wife, Rayven; Christian Boyette; along with his great-grandchildren, Rett Coco, A.J. Coco, Hunter Glisson, Cole Glisson, Kylee Grantham, Kalani Grantham, Sidney Smith, Londyn Callahan, Raelynn Boyette, and Lily Ross, will continue to honor his memory. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and his fur-baby, Rosie.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 17, 2026, from 6 PM until 8 PM at the Beulah Baptist Church Chapel.

Funeral Services will take place on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 11 AM at Beulah Baptist Church, followed by burial in the church cemetery. The funeral service will be officiated by Dr. Neal Jackson, Dr. Joe Arthur, Dr. Don Hudson and Rev. Alan Hutchens. The committal will be conducted by Curtis Bouldin.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made in Curtis’s memory to Baptist Children’s Homes of North Carolina or to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
