Driver escapes serious injury after crashing into tree

A single-vehicle accident Friday shut down a road and sent the driver to the hospital. The crash happened near Carthage around 9 p.m. in the 200 block of Farm Life School Road near the intersection of Union Church Road.

According to N.C. State Highway Patrol on the scene, a Kia Sorento traveling north on Farm Life School Road ran off the right shoulder and overcorrected, leaving the roadway on the opposite side of the road and crashing into a tree.

The impact left the vehicle with heavy front-end damage. The engine had also become dislodged and was found in the woods. A small fire had started around the engine, which was quickly put out.

Farm Life School Road was shut down for about an hour while crews worked the scene, and the vehicle was removed.

The female driver was the only occupant and walked away from the crash with help from first responders. She was transported to Moore Regional Hospital to be checked out.

N.C. State Highway Patrol was on the scene investigating the crash.

Responding to the scene were Whispering Pines Fire Department, Carthage Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Office, Carthage Police Department, and N.C. State Highway Patrol.
