A man from Rockingham is facing felony charges after police reported that he made a fraudulent return while employed at an Aberdeen business.
In a press release, Aberdeen Police Chief Brian Chavis said 48-year-old James McDougald was arrested a day after the alleged crime occurred.
On Nov. 5, officers with the Aberdeen Police Department were called to a business near U.S. 1 and Magnolia Dr. in reference to a larceny by an employee that previously occurred. The name of the company was not released.
“After investigating the claims, Aberdeen Officers obtained statements and reviewed accounting records, at which point they confirmed McDougald had conducted a fraudulent return while employed by the business,” said Chavis. “Officers determined that McDougald had stolen over $1,500.00 from the business.”
Warrants were obtained on McDougald for felony larceny by an employee and felony possession of stolen goods.
The suspect was apprehended in Richmond County on Nov. 6. His unsecured bond was set at $2,000.
