Man arrested for fleeing police, discarding gun

A man from Southern Pines is facing five charges after allegedly fleeing police and discarding a loaded gun, according to a press release from Southern Pines Police Department.

Twenty-one-year-old Tiayvian Davis was arrested on Sunday after a traffic stop for a motor vehicle violation and was placed at the Moore County Detention Center under a $95,000 secured bond.

The press release said Davis failed to pull his vehicle over and stop for the police.

“After a short vehicle pursuit, Mr. Davis abandoned the vehicle he was driving and attempted to evade officers by continuing to flee on foot,” said the release. “Officers McNeill and Davis apprehended Tiayvian Altyrea Davis a short time later. When Mr. Davis fled on foot, he discarded a loaded Glock 19 handgun, which was recovered by arresting officers.”

Davis is facing charges of fleeing/eluding arrest with a motor vehicle, possession of a firearm by a felon, resisting a public officer, no operator’s license and unsafe movement.

The suspect is due in court on Jan. 5 and is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
