Man pulled to safety after fiery crash

Thanks to a good Samaritan, a man was pulled to safety after crashing his car late Friday night.

Emergency units were dispatched to the single-vehicle accident around 10:30 p.m. on Cypress Church Road, near Byrd Road, just outside of Vass.

Upon arrival, they found a Lincoln Town Car fully engulfed in flames in the woods with a large tree down across the road. The male driver was out of the vehicle and had been pulled to safety by a passerby before crews arrived.

The fire was knocked down, and the patient was taken to Vass ball field where Air Care was waiting to fly him to a trauma center. His condition is unknown at this time.

At the scene of the crash, the large tree was removed from the roadway and the vehicle towed.
Traffic was diverted down Byrd Road while crews worked the scene.

Highway Patrol was on scene investigating the crash.

Responding to the scene were Cypress Pointe Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Office, Vass Police Department and N.C. State Highway Patrol.
