A man died Saturday after crashing his tractor into a tree in western Moore County, ending what had been a joyful day for family and friends.
The crash occurred just before noon on Dover Church Road, southwest of Jermayne Farm Road, according to authorities on scene. A parade of antique tractors had just left a parade in Montgomery County and was traveling towards Seagrove when a tractor at the back of the line slowed down and became separated from the group.
A car following the group came upon the crash and sped ahead to alert the others, who returned immediately to assist.
Unfortunately, the man was pronounced deceased once a medic unit arrived on the scene.
Authorities said the cause of the crash is under investigation, but it is believed to be the result of a medical issue.
Dover Church Road was reduced to one lane of travel for approximately two hours while crews worked on the scene.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is leading the investigation.
This marks the second fatal crash in Moore County within a 24-hour period.
Responding units included the Westmoore Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Department, N.C. Highway Patrol, and the N.C. Medical Examiner’s Office. Boles Funeral Home transported the body from the scene.
