North Carolina’s  Low-Income Energy Assistance Program begins accepting applications starting December 1st.

Moore County residents aged 60 or older or individuals receiving disability benefits and services through the N.C. Division of Aging and Adult Services may sign up for assistance during the month of December.  All other households are eligible to sign up starting in the new year until March 31st or until funds are exhausted.

The energy assistance program provides a one-time payment directly to the utility company to help eligible households pay their heating bills during the cold-weather months.

Last year, the program provided around $38 million to more than 120,000 households.

The energy assistance program is federally funded.
