A Wednesday morning fire broke out at Ken’s Body Works on Doubs Chapel Road in Eastwood.
According to radio traffic, witnesses reported heavy black smoke coming from a garage around 6:15 a.m.
When Sandhills Sentinel arrived, the fire was visible from the left side of the back garage. Heavy smoke poured from the room, and the garage doors were charred black. The staff was not at work yet.
Fire command from Eastwood quickly arrived on the scene and directed the incoming units. The Carthage ladder truck was the first to arrive and began extending over the first buildings, providing light to the second building. Southern Pines pulled water lines while the Pinehurst Fire Department supplied water.
Seven Lakes, Eastwood, West End and Whispering Pines also responded, using manpower to fight the fire. Eagle Springs was asked to assist with station standby.
Firefighters used saws to help enter the metal building. At least one vehicle in the garage was destroyed.
Doubs Chapel Road was closed for several hours.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
