Motorcyclist airlifted after Robbins collision

A motorcyclist was airlifted to a trauma center Sunday afternoon after colliding with an SUV on Highway 24/27 near Marley Road in Robbins.

The accident occurred around 3:15 p.m. when a Kawasaki motorcycle traveling eastbound rear-ended an Acura RDX that had stopped behind another vehicle that was making a turn. The Acura was carrying a family of six, including a newborn.

According to officials, the motorcyclist was unable to stop in time, leading to the collision.

The male motorcyclist sustained a suspected leg fracture and was flown to Chapel Hill for treatment. A landing zone was set up by emergency responders in a nearby field off Marley Road.

A female passenger from the Acura was transported to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The rest of the family, including the newborn, were unharmed.

Moore County Sheriff’s Office, Robbins Fire & Rescue, and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to the scene.
