Carolyn G. Deese, 75, of Aberdeen and formerly Sanford, passed peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, May 10th.
Born in Harnett County on Jan. 6, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Lester and Shirley Matthews Carroll. In addition to her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Ray Deese, sisters Donna Kay Powers, Brenda Carroll, Louise Redwine, and brothers Lane Carroll and Jimmie Holder. Carolyn is survived by her four daughters: Barbara Hall, Cristy Hankins (Gary), Laura Howard (Jeff) and Amanda Savage of the home. She was the loving grandmother of Terri, Matthew, Connor, Lindsey, Trent (Desiree), Katelen, Maddie and Christopher (Randie). She is also survived by her 12 great – grandchildren, a grand – furbaby “Sophie” and her dear friend Mrs. Lani.
As the mother of four beautiful daughters, family meant everything to Carolyn. She lived a simple but full life in which she provided everything she could for her family. To her grandchildren and friends, she was known simply as Mema.
Carolyn worked many years at The Brass Kettle in Sanford and Vance Properties in Swansboro before retiring. She enjoyed spending time at the beach, pier-fishing, going yard sale-ing, and being the life of a family get together. She loved to plant flowers in her garden and the bird feeder never went empty on her watch.
Carolyn had a big heart and often thought of others before herself. Her ability to listen and provide the advice only a mother could will be greatly missed.
The family would like the thank the staff and residents of Seven Lakes Assisted Living for the excellent care and companionship they provided for Carolyn. They have become members of the family and we are grateful for their support during the past year.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
