obituary Donald William Sicklesteel

Donald William Sicklesteel died on July 5, 2020 at the age of 95. He was born in Detroit Michigan, on June 18, 1925 to David Trotter Sicklesteel and Helen Ann (Stacey) Sicklesteel. He was raised in Grosse Pointe, Mi. and graduated from St. John’s Military Academy in Wisconsin, and Michigan State University. He participated in the V12 Navy College Training Program, to become a commissioned officer during WWII. He served as an Ensign on a Navy ship in the Pacific toward the end of the war.

Don was in corporate management with Parker Hannifin and Borg Warner. He was a previous resident and member of the Country Club of North Carolina, and most recently, Penick Village.

He is survived by his daughter Donna Fitzgerald (Dan) of Evergreen Co.  Additionally, he is survived by his granddaughters Christina Steinmetz from Clinton, Mi, Kelly Fitzgerald, of Jacksonville, Or, Kacie Fitzgerald of Golden, Co and grandsons, Andrew Steinmetz (Sharwin) of Phoenix, Scott Steinmetz (LuLu) of Farmington Hills, Mi, David Fitzgerald (Jen) of Huntington Beach, Ca. and Son-in-Law, Sam Steinmetz of Onsted, Mi. He also has seven great grandchildren and several nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan, his daughter, Carol Ann Steinmetz and his brother, Bob Sicklesteel.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 25th, 2020 at 10:00 am at Pinelawn Memorial Cemetery in Southern Pines. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Penick Village Foundation, 500 E. Rhode Island, Southern Pines, NC, 28387.
