LTCOL (RET) Edmond James Murphy, 87, of Pinehurst, passed away on June 24, 2018 at FirstHealth Hospice House.
He was born on March 14, 1931 in Rockville, Connecticut to the late William and Mary Murphy. After attending the University of Connecticut, he proudly served his country as a pilot in the USMC for 26 years, including time in Vietnam as a MedEvac pilot where he was awarded the Silver Star Medal. In 1989 he and his wife, Pat made their home in Pinehurst. He was a member of the Pinehurst Country Club and involved with the Tin Whistles. He enjoyed golfing, watching sports, traveling, and cooking but most of all, time with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Patricia Murphy; three daughters, Janice Williams (Kraig) of NJ, Susan Scully (Jason) of OR and Barbara Murphy of NC; two brothers, Robert Murphy (Ann) of ME and Stuart Murphy (Nancy) of MA; sister-in-law, Nancy Norton (Jerry) of NC; one granddaughter, Rebecca; also survived by many nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
A private service will be held at a later date.
