Mrs. Gussie (Brown) McNair
September 15, 1924- October 31, 2021 (age 97)
Mrs. Gussie Brown McNair, of Carthage, transitioned on Sunday, October 31, 2021, at Duke Hospice House, in Durham, NC.
A 1941 graduate of Pickney High School in Carthage NC, she received her first Bachelor’s degree from Barber Scotia Presbyterian College in Concord, NC, and a second Bachelor’s degree in Library Science from Fayetteville State University. She liked her classroom, but loved her library. Mrs. McNair retired in 1984 after a 32-year career in education with the Moore County School System.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie Lacy Brown and Isabel Kennedy Brown; six brothers and seven sisters; special nieces, nephews and cousins. In life, her gift was her unfailing love and support for her family and church. Her legacy lives on in her grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends and former students.
A public viewing will be held at Pugh and Smith Funeral Home, 807 Monroe Street Carthage, on Saturday, November 13, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 pm. In recognition of current Covid-19 public health guidance, a private ceremony will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. Entombment will occur at Pinelawn Memorial Park, 1105 Morganton Road, Southern Pines, NC 28387, following the private service, and is open to the public.
