Kenneth Douglas Schmidt, age 68, of Woodlake, Vass, NC, passed away on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at Pinelake Nursing Home in Carthage.

Born in Woodbury, NJ on February 23, 1950, to the late George F. and Jean Rae Schmidt, he was a 1968 graduate of Woodbury High School where he quarterbacked the Varsity Football team and was a member of the Golf Team.  He grew up in Woodbury, NJ in the Bell Lake area, where he developed a love of hunting, fishing, ice-skating, sledding, baseball, football, and loyal friends.  His father taught him golf at the Woodbury Country Club and Westwood Golf Course.

Ken received his BS from Temple University, Philadelphia, PA.  He began his career as a physical therapist in the Philadelphia and Trenton, NJ areas.  He had a passion for sports and loyally followed the Phillies, Yankees, Eagles and Giants.  It was in the Trenton area that Ken found his wife Barbara.  They had gone to the same high school in Woodbury NJ. and she was the love of his life.

In 2005, Ken and his wife moved to NC.   He worked as a Physical Therapist for St. Joseph’s of the Pines prior to retiring.  Ken enjoyed golfing and was known to always have a fishing pole handy.

In addition to his parents, Ken was preceded in death by his wife Barbara (Welch) Schmidt and his brother Robert Schmidt.

He is survived by a brother Donald (Loretta) of NJ, as well as nieces Laurie Laurer of OR, Michele Mulligan of NC, Jamie Koch of PA., Jessica Welch of NJ and great niece Morgan Schmidt of MD; nephews Donald Schmidt, Jr., Robert Schmidt, Gary Schmidt all of NJ, Jeff Schmidt and Brian Slotter of NC.

Ken leaves behind a harvest of memories for his family and friends to cherish and honor.  Memorials may be made in Ken’s memory to the charity of your choice.
