Lewis Monroe Jr of Vass, North Carolina passed away March 19th at his childhood home. He was 56 years old. Although he suffered from health issues later in life, his death was unexpected.

Lewis was the son of Lewis Monroe Sr & Estella Thomas Monroe. A native of Moore County, he graduated from Union Pines High School where he was an accomplished athlete and musician.

He went on to attend Brevard College and ultimately earned his BA in Music from Appalachian State University. He was intelligent, funny and one of a kind. His musical talent was off the charts.  He played five instruments, sang and was even a composer, but he was a drummer at heart.

Lewis is survived by his two maternal aunts, Mrs. Fannie McPhaul of High Point, NC, Miss Bertha Thomas of Hempstead, NY & friends too numerous to mention. He never fully grasped the impact he had on people but he will certainly be missed by everyone who knew him.

A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, April 6th, 2019 – from 2PM-6PM at the same home where he grew up, 432 J Burns Road, Vass, NC.

Pugh & Smith Funeral Home of Carthage assisted the Monroe Family.
