Raymond Lee Williams, age 86 of Southern Pines passed away on Friday, January 3, 2020 at his home.

Raymond was born on May 18, 1933 in Robbins, NC to the late Herbert and Ruthie Williams. He graduated from Southern Pines High School in 1951. Raymond married Martina Harriss on June 12, 1955 and they started their family in 1956.

Raymond worked at the Colonial and Hobbs Store as a butcher before he opened his restaurant, “The Grey Fox” in Pinehurst in 1967. He then became a chef at CCNC for over 25 years. After retiring from there, he spent many years landscaping homes around Southern Pines.  Raymond enjoyed golf, fishing, cooking, gardening, beach trips and time spent with his family and entertaining and cooking for his friends.

He is survived by his children: Jeffrey Williams and wife Kathy of N. Myrtle Beach, SC; Craig Williams of Pennsylvania; Todd Williams and wife Christy of Pinehurst, NC; Christopher Williams of Seven Lakes, NC; and Maureen Williams of Carthage, NC. He is also survived by a sister, Betty Jean Seawell of Carthage, NC and a brother, Leon Williams of West End, NC; 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.  In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Renee Dutch as well as 6 brothers and 3 sisters.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at 1 p.m. at Boles Funeral Home Chapel in Southern Pines with Rev. Sam Walker officiating. Burial will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Southern Pines.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 12-1 p.m.  The family will receive friends after the burial at Raymond’s home.
