During its regular meeting on July 22, the Village Council heard a proposed resolution honoring employees from the public services and fire departments for their actions during and after the record-breaking rainfall during Tropical Storm Chantal on July 6.
According to the resolution, the storm brought “once-in-500 to 1,000-year” amounts of rainfall, causing localized flooding and widespread damage. Despite these hazardous conditions, the Village staff responded quickly and efficiently.
The resolution of appreciation for the Pinehurst Public Services Department centered on their role in managing stormwater issues, clearing roadways, and ensuring public safety. Crews worked to repair damage and mitigate further risks almost immediately after the storm passed. The resolution recognized team members across multiple job categories, including engineering technicians, maintenance supervisors, grounds and street crews, and administrative support.
Similarly, the Pinehurst Fire Department was praised for its emergency response and continued service throughout the storm and its aftermath. The Council’s resolution noted that firefighters handled an “elevated volume of emergency incidents” and extended aid not just within the Village, but also to surrounding communities.
“We have a lot to be appreciative about,” said Pinehurst Mayor Patrick Pizzella in regards to the resolution, which was then passed unanimously.
