Sheriff reports results of litter campaign on Highway 5

The Moore County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the Aberdeen Police Department and the North Carolina Highway Patrol, has concluded a two-week traffic enforcement campaign aimed at reducing unsecured loads and roadway debris along Highway 5 near the Moore County landfill.

During the campaign, officers conducted targeted enforcement and issued a total of 38 citations, including:

*Failure to secure load: 20

*Registration violations: 9

*Driving while license revoked (DWLR): 5

*No operator’s license (NOL): 1

*Inspection violations: 2

*Fictitious plates: 1

“This campaign demonstrated the ongoing need for enforcement to keep our roadways safe and clean,” said Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields in a press release. “We urge all motorists, especially those transporting debris to the landfill, to remain vigilant in properly securing their loads to prevent dangerous roadway hazards.”

The Moore County Sheriff’s Office, Aberdeen Police Department, and North Carolina Highway Patrol remain committed to ensuring roadway safety and will continue to enforce laws related to unsecured loads. Motorists are encouraged to use tarps, netting, or other securement methods to prevent debris from escaping their vehicles.
