Single-vehicle accident sends one to hospital

A single-vehicle accident near High Falls sent one person to the hospital on Thursday.

The 911 call came in around 5:20 p.m. in the 2300 block of Highway 22 near Putnam Church Road.

A pickup truck appeared to have run off the road and gone down an embankment. Marks could be seen from the shoulder of the highway down the embankment where the truck made impact with a driveway. The truck landed upright on the other side of the driveway.

The truck sustained damage to the front and top, back window, and a tool box was laying next to the truck. Debris was stretched along the embankment and driveway.

When firefighters first arrived on the scene, the male driver was laying on the ground. They quickly started rendering aid to the patient. Air Care was initially called, but later it was determined they weren’t needed.

The patient was taken to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital by EMS. His injuries are unknown at this time.

A portion of Highway 22 was brought down to one lane for an extended time. That area of Highway 22 is very narrow, causing traffic to move slowly.

The exact cause of the crash is being investigated by North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Responding to the scene were High Falls Fire and Rescue, Moore County EMS, and State Highway Patrol.
