Student-Athlete Spotlight: Lucy Attar

Lucy Attar is currently in the seventh grade at St. John Paul II Catholic School in Southern Pines. She began playing sports in the fifth grade and comes from a large athletic family. Her brothers and sister have played multiple sports throughout high school.

She is a three-sport athlete playing as a setter in volleyball, forward and guard in basketball, and in soccer, she plays left wing. When Lucy is promoted to high school, she plans to attend Father Vincent Capodanno High School, which her siblings also attended. At Father Vincent Capodanno, she plans to play volleyball and basketball and run track.

Lucy likes being on the volleyball team the best. “I just love my coach; she’s amazing, and I feel like it’s more of a team effort like we all have to work together to get it over the net, and it’s just a lot of fun,” said Lucy.

One exciting memory was this past fall when her middle school team won their conference volleyball championship.

In the first two basketball games of this season, Lucy scored 15 points in both games against Cape Fear Christian.

“Lucy is a very hard worker and loves to compete,” said Travis Alfred, St. John Paul II girls basketball coach. “She makes others on her team better by never backing down and giving hard effort every play.”

Lucy also has a love for singing.

“My mom has videos of me singing since I was in kindergarten,” said Lucy.

She has sung the National Anthem at sporting events.

She also likes being a part of drama. She has been in four musicals where she played Charlie in Willy Wonka, Lemur in Madagascar, Wardrobe in Beauty and the Beast, and this year, she played Jasmine in Aladdin.

“I think Jasmine is my favorite, and I am really excited because I resemble her,” said Lucy.

Although Lucy has a busy schedule, she still manages an A and B average in her classes. She really enjoys her ELA/social studies class.

She spends her free time with friends or at Father Vincent Capodanno sporting events, cheering on her brother. She also likes to take the time for a good book when she can.

She hasn’t decided where she wants to attend college just yet, but she has a dream of being a police officer.
