The bond for a West End man who is accused of assaulting a police officer was raised from $1,500 to $15,000 Thursday.

Charles Kadeem White, 30, was arrested at the beginning of November and charged with assault on a government official, resist/obstruct government  official, and intoxicated/disruptive.

A Southern Pines Police Officer was investigating a report of a female being assaulted at Kickback Jacks on U.S. Highway 15/501. As he approached the scene, White became violent with the officer, according to authorities.

A second police officer who arrived on scene used a taser on White to apprehend the suspect. The first officer suffered cuts to his extremities and was treated for his wounds.

The next day after White’s arrest, Moore County District Attorney’s Office filed a motion in superior court to revoke White’s prior order of release.  The DA’s office asked for the suspect’s original bond to be raised to $500,000.

White has a Nov. 20 court date and is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
