Three key players return to the Bogeys

Three key players are returning to the Sandhills Bogeys. Catchers Charlie Muniz and Josh Zambito and pitcher Nick Duncan are returning to the team this season. All three players contributed to last season’s success, said the Bogeys in a news release.

Muniz is a senior at the University of the Cumberlands. “I love playing in the Sandhills,” said Muniz. “The winning environment, the fans and playing a great brand of ball; I’m excited to return.”

He was a 2024 Old North State League (ONSL) All-Star and Home Run Derby winner. In 2024, Muniz had 97 at-bats in 29 games, recording 21 runs, 33 hits, 29 RBIs, 17 BBs, and 17 SOs. He finished the regular season with a .340 average and 9 HRs.

“Charlie is a special ballplayer,” said Coach Fox. “Coming back with his experience and leadership from last year is huge for us.”

Zambito is a senior at St. Andrews University. “It’s a blast playing for the Bogeys,” said Zambito. “With a lot of returning players, we are going to make a strong run at the championship.”

Zambito played in 32 games last season with 87 trips to the plate, recording 17 runs, 28 hits, 26 BBs, 17 SOs and a .322 average.

“I’m with Josh every day at St Andrews,” said Fox. “Bito is a worker; he’s always at it and getting better all the time.”

Duncan, also a 2024 ONSL All-Star, is a right-handed junior from Bluefield University. Duncan went 1-2 last season and had a low 2.70 ERA. He gave up 16 hits, 10 runs, and 14 BBs.

“Nick was our number one pitcher on the mound last season,” said Fox. “He’s a real competitor, and having Nick coming back strengthens our rotation immediately.”

The Bogeys kick off the ONSL season at Dempsey Diamond at Bogey Ballpark on May 29 versus the Coastal Coconuts.
