Traffic stop for fictitious registration plate lands 3 in jail on drug, weapon charges

A traffic stop in Vass led to the arrest of three people on drug and weapon charges.

Detectives with the Moore County Sheriff’s Department pulled the vehicle over in the 4000 block of U.S. Highway 1 on Thursday, Jan. 31.

“Detectives initiated the traffic stop due to the vehicle displaying a fictitious registration plate,” said Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields in a statement issued to Sandhills Sentinel.

Detectives discovered suspected fentanyl, methamphetamine, marijuana, amphetamine, tramadol, drug paraphernalia, firearms, and $889 in the vehicle.

James Maddox, 55, was arrested on charges of trafficking in opium or heroin by possession, trafficking in opium or heroin by transport, possession with intent to sell and deliver schedule II controlled substance, felony possession of schedule II controlled substance, possession with intent to sell and deliver methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, maintain a vehicle dwelling or place to keep a controlled substance, possession of firearm by felon, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while license revoked, and fictitious registration plate. 

Margaret Kilcullen, 49, was arrested on charges of trafficking in opium or heroin by possession, trafficking in opium or heroin by transport, possession with intent to sell and deliver schedule II controlled substance, felony possession of schedule II controlled substance, trafficking in methamphetamine by possession, trafficking in methamphetamine by transport, possession with intent to sell and deliver methamphetamine, felony possession of methamphetamine, maintain a vehicle, dwelling, or place to keep a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession with intent to sell and deliver schedule II controlled substance- (amphetamine), felony possession of schedule II controlled substance- (amphetamine), simple possession of schedule IV controlled substance- (tramadol), and carrying a concealed firearm.

Johnny Oldham, 45, was arrested on charges of trafficking in opium or heroin by possession, trafficking in opium or heroin by transport, possession with intent to sell and deliver schedule II controlled substance, felony possession of schedule II controlled substance, possession with intent to sell and deliver methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, maintain a vehicle, dwelling, or place to keep a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, simple possession of schedule VI controlled substance, and two counts of carrying a concealed firearm.

All three suspects are from Vass and were jailed at the Moore County Detention Center. Maddox was placed under a $125,000 secured bond. Kilcullen and Oldham’s secured bonds were set at $100,000.

All three are due in court on Feb. 15 and are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
