Both occupants of a vehicle were airlifted late Saturday night after they crashed on Lobelia Road between Vass and the Woodlake community. The single-vehicle crash happened a little before midnight on the stretch of road between Louise Lane and Fairley Lane.
According to authorities on scene, the BMW passenger vehicle was traveling east on Lobelia Road when it left the roadway on the right and went down an embankment. The vehicle hit one tree head-on before spinning around and hitting a second tree, coming to a stop.
Both male occupants were transported to a landing zone that had been established at the Vass ball field and were airlifted to an area trauma center in serious condition.Â
Crains Creek Fire Department was dispatched as a second rescue due to one or both of the occupants possibly being trapped or pinned in, but the second rescue was canceled shortly after dispatch.
Southern Pines Fire Department was dispatched to assist with the landing zone.
The Cypress Pointe Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Office, and N.C. Highway Patrol responded to the scene.
