Two transported after car strikes tree near Carthage

A single-vehicle crash just south of Carthage sent two people to the hospital on Tuesday afternoon.

According to authorities on the scene, the crash occurred when a Honda Pilot traveling south on U.S. Highway 15-501 attempted to make a right turn onto Brinkley Road. The vehicle was traveling too fast to make the turn and skidded off the roadway into a tree.

The SUV also took out the stop sign in the crash and sustained significant front-end damage.

The female driver and her father were the only occupants and were both transported to Moore Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Highway Patrol investigating the crash told Sandhills Sentinel that the vehicle skidded over 75 feet before coming to a stop.

The evening commute was slowed to a crawl on U.S. Highway 15-501 through the area while crews worked the scene and the vehicle was removed.

Responding units were the Carthage Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Office, and North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
