Two wrecks occurred in Southern Pines Friday afternoon within 1 mile of each other and 14 minutes apart.

The first wreck took place at 1:09 p.m. on Hwy 15-501 and Murray Hill Road. In this accident, a Toyota Minivan collided with a Kia SUV sending the Kia over onto its side.

The occupants of both vehicles were uninjured in the collision.

Traffic was backed up to Belks on 15-501 north and backed up to U.S. Hwy 1. The southbound lanes could not be opened completely until the overturned Kia and the minivan were removed from the road.

The second accident occurred 14 minutes later and exactly one mile away on Morganton Road.

Second accident sends SUV crashing into tree at Pinecrest Plaza

At 1:23 p.m., emergency crews were paged to Morganton Road at the entrance to Pinecrest Plaza.

Upon arrival, they found a Cadillac SUV that had collided with a Nissan sedan. The collision sent the Cadillac over the curb where it struck a tree at the top of the entrance.

No one was reportedly injured in this accident as well.
