United Way season of giving: Committed to supporting dignity of self-sufficiency

United Way of Moore County is committed to supporting the dignity of self-sufficiency.

“September officially marks the beginning of giving season, and for 56 years, United Way of Moore County has launched annual campaigns to raise money to help local nonprofit organizations,” said United Way President Linda Pearson in a press release. “Over the years, those nonprofits have helped a vast number of people with the support of grants from United Way,” she continued.

United Way of Moore County’s mission is based upon efforts to help families, children and individuals in this community with education enhancements and health and human service needs.

“We want to make sure that resources are available for the people of our community. We want to ensure that people know how to access services if needed, and 211 information and referral helps get those resources out there,” Pearson continued.

United Way of Moore County has raised and put back into the community millions of dollars over the years, serving as a lifeline to many and ensuring that needed services and programs to support residents were available. United Way works enable people to maintain their families on their own and to become self-sufficient. According to census data, a significant number of Moore County families with children are struggling to make ends meet. United Way of Moore County believes it is possible for those families to become more self-sufficient. United Way works to connect people with resources to help them maintain independence so they can provide their family’s basic needs and more.

Families seeking assistance with special needs adults and families who are coping with loved ones immersed in substance misuse benefit from donations to United Way. Victims of domestic violence and those who need help with food and clothing benefit from donations to United Way. Families, children and individuals need your help as they deal with day-to-day situations that may cause them setbacks or present obstacles for them. Access to books, more than ever before, regardless of where they live, books are going to the children. United Way of Moore County supports these programs and services and more to ensure that Moore County is a good place to call home for all who choose to live here.

Kit McKinley, United Way of Moore County Board Chair, commented that the board of directors has been strategically planning and putting in place processes to ensure a successful 2024 campaign so United Way can continue to meet needs in our community that would likely go unmet if not for the partnerships we develop with our community and service agencies.

“I think that in most towns and cities across the state, you can find neighborhoods that are thriving and prospering as well as those who struggle to maintain a decent lifestyle. At United Way, we want all our neighborhoods to be thriving and prospering. That is why we do the work we do,” Kit concluded.
