The Moore County Board of Commissioners passed two resolutions supporting the U.S. Constitution on Tuesday, April 6, 2021. The board promised to protect the rights of the First Amendment which protects free speech, and the Second Amendment which prohibits the government from infringing on citizens’ rights to bear arms – to the fullest extent.
In new business, the board elected First Carolina Care Insurance Company to provide medical, dental and pharmaceutical insurance for county employees at approximately $9.2 million beginning July 1, 2021. It had the lowest cost, is effectively the same as the current insurance coverage, will have no change in provisions and offers the best network provider discounts.
David Lambert with the Solid Waste department said it has had an increase in recycling electronics, and the board chose Southern Environmental Solutions of the Carolinas to cover the recycling. The company will be paid $110,000 annually to cover the recycling.
Godfrey Environmental Contracts, LLC will provide grinding (mulch) services for Solid Waste. The estimated tonnage per year is 220, and the cost is 81 cents per ton. The service offers a 1% discount for bills paid before 15 days.
Superior Tree Services will be paid $140,000 annually for transferring recycling materials to Fayetteville four to five times a week and will provide the truck and trailer.
Each of the Solid Waste contracts are for a period of three years.
In other business during the commissioners’ meeting, the Moore County Health Department re-announced the COVID-19 vaccine processes:
Appointments must be made;
Age 18 + (or 16-17 with a parent or legal guardian) call to schedule;
Appointments are Tues. 10 a.m. – 7 p.m., and Wed.- Fri. 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.;
Ask about a Saturday appointment;

Also, Charters of Freedom had eight speakers at the meeting and gave a presentation about the organization’s mission. The mission, as it states on their website is, “to teach and preserve American history and civics, so all will know how our government is meant to serve and protect We the People.”
In upcoming events, an informational and ordinance regulation hearing will be held on April 20, 2021 at 5:30 p.m. for a 12-lot single-family housing development plan on 34 undeveloped acres presented by C & C Properties of MC, LLC. The development is planned for Bibey Road in Carthage.
