A lieutenant with the Aberdeen Police Department went above and beyond to serve her community on Tuesday afternoon. While patrolling her zone, Lieutenant Brooks noticed an older Aberdeen resident working on her lawn in the sweltering summer heat. Without hesitation, the lieutenant took the initiative to lend a hand and demonstrate the department’s drive for community service.
Brooks pulled over and approached the resident, then proceeded to mow a portion of the woman’s front yard. While Brooks mowed, the resident was offered a break from work and a respite from the heat.
However, Brooks had no idea that her act of service was being captured on camera nearby, and the photos quickly circulated back to Aberdeen Police Chief Brian Chavis.
“I began to receive several calls and texts about Lieutenant Brooks’s photo circulating online,” said Chief Chavis. “Once I looked at the picture, I could not have been prouder of Lieutenant Brooks. This is what every chief and sheriff dream of.”
Chief Chavis told Sandhills Sentinel that though he may be proud, the lieutenant’s kindness came as no surprise.
“This does not surprise me about Lieutenant Brooks because she has a passion for interacting with the town’s elderly citizens,” Chief Chavis explained. “Community policing is important to Lieutenant Brooks and extremely important to the Aberdeen Police Department and the town.”
Chief Chavis concluded, “I’m truly blessed to have Lieutenant Brooks on my team, and I’m excited to see what the future has in store for her law enforcement career.”
