Black Marlins earn medals at state championship

The Moore County Homeschool Aquatics (MCHA) Black Marlins competed in the NCHEAC State Swim Championship on Feb. 4 in Charlotte.

Both the girls’ and boys’ teams took third place. The girls’ medley and 4×100 free relays took the gold with Maddie Flanagan, Veronica Kaczorowski, Anna Moon, and Emma Flanagan. The boys’ 4×100 free relay took silver with Ian Hicks, Andrew Johnson, Liam Hicks, and Joshua Johnson.

Emma Flanagan won silver in the 200 IM with a personal best time of 2:15.49 and qualified for the USA Swimming NC Championship. Emma took gold and set a new state record in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:08.70. This also qualified her for USA Swimming NC Championship and the ESSZ sectionals.

Maddie Flanagan took bronze in the 500 free with a new personal best time of 5:48.81. 

Joshua Johnson took gold in the 200 IM with a personal best time of 2:04.72, which also qualified him for the USA Swimming NC Championship. Josh also took gold in the 100 breaststroke with 1:00.58. This also qualified him for the USA Swimming NC Championship and the ESSZ sectionals.
