Champions crowned

Tri-TAC champions are crowned. A young, enthusiastic, and talented group of young men have added their names to a storied history of boy’s golf at The O’Neal School when they closed out a strong showing Monday night winning the Tri-TAC Conference Championship.

Hosted at Pinehurst No. 6, the conference championship match didn’t quite kick off the way the Falcons had hoped, as the team trailed after the first 9 holes. However, perseverance was the word of the day as the Falcons overcame some early adversity and clawed their way to victory on the back nine.

A strong back nine sealed the victory for the Falcons who were led by seventh-grader Jack Halloran’s low round on the day. Halloran made two birdies while firing an even-par 36 on the inward nine to shoot 77 and claim All Conference honors for the tournament.  Shooting the low round of the match, Halloran was named Tri-TAC Conference Player of the Year.

Coach Jon Halloran is named Tri-TAC Coach of the Year and his son Jack is named Tri-TAC Player of the Year.

Freshman, Max Martin continued his solid play shooting 78 and earned All-Conference honors along the way.  “Martin has had to take a leadership role on a young team,” shared Coach Halloran. “He has made significant contributions outside of his excellent on-course performance.” Lastly, joining the Falcon’s accolades, Coach Jon Halloran was named Tri-TAC Conference Coach of the Year.

“While there were many awards handed out on Monday, the entire team deserves credit for their hard work all year long,” shared Coach Halloran. “Although golf is primarily an individual sport, this group relishes the comradery of TEAM!”

The Falcons will turn their focus to the NCISAA 2A State Qualifier at High Point Country Club on May 3.
