A crash in Cameron left a dog owner trying to find several of his hunting dogs. The single-vehicle crash happened in the 2800 block of N.C. 24-27 near Dewberry Lane around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Sandhills Sentinel spoke with officials on the scene and the driver of the Toyota Tacoma after the wreck, who confirmed the driver had swerved to avoid hitting a deer.Â
The truck ran off the road before crashing head-on into a tree just a few feet from a light pole.
The driver had 15 hunting dogs in the back of his truck and told Sandhills Sentinel that four or five were still missing. The dogs, which were of the Fox Walker breed, were wearing trackers, and friends were in the area helping to locate them, but they had not yet all been accounted for.Â
The driver of the truck was uninjured in the crash.
One lane of N.C. 24-27 was shut down while crews worked the scene, and the vehicle was removed.
North Carolina State Highway Patrol was investigating the crash.
UPDATE: Reports indicate the dogs have been found.Â
