Woman charged with DWI in two-vehicle crash

A woman was charged with driving while impaired (DWI) after a two-vehicle crash in Pinehurst on Tuesday night. The wreck occurred on Highway 15-501 North and Juniper Creek Blvd.

According to Pinehurst Police, the driver of a Kia Sorento struck a Nissan Murano. The impact caused the Nissan to go off the side of the road and the Kia to overturn on 15-501.

The two occupants of the Nissan and the driver of the Kia were uninjured.

Pinehurst Police conducted field sobriety and Breathalyzer tests on the driver of the Kia, Brenda Guadalupe Jimenez Cuevas, 23, and she was arrested at the scene on a charge of DWI. Officials said speed was also a factor in the wreck. 

Pinehurst Fire & Rescue, along with Moore County EMS, were also present at the scene.

Defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
