Drunk driver crashes into family of 5

A drunk driver crashed into a family of five, fled the scene, and crashed almost a mile away, according to authorities. The accident occurred in Pinebluff Tuesday night just before 8:30 p.m.

The drunk driver crashed head-on into a Toyota carrying two adults and three small children near the intersection of Philadelphia Avenue and Ridgecrest Street.

The driver fled the scene in his burgundy truck. He traveled down Philadelphia Avenue, crossing over U.S. Hwy 1, and crashed into a tree in the front yard of a residence.

Police say the driver of a pick-up truck crashed into a family of five before driving into a fence.

The truck at some point lost its front tire due to the collision but continued to drive without it. As of this report, the tire could not be located.

The man and woman in the Toyota SUV were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The three small children that were in the backseat were all unharmed and were placed into the care of a family member that came to the scene.

The driver of the truck was uninjured in the crash. He was belligerent with officers at the scene and was placed under arrest.

Pinebluff Police Chief Pike Nordgren advised the man was being charged with hit and run as well as DWI. He said more charges would be forthcoming.

Rockwell Towing removed the Toyota from the scene.

Responding to the scenes were Pinebluff Fire & Rescue, Aberdeen Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, Pinebluff Police, and Moore County Sheriff’s Department.
