Home saved by alert neighbors

An Aberdeen family is fortunate to still have their home relatively intact after alert neighbors noticed the side of the home on fire Tuesday evening. The home is located on Pecan Lane in the Woodgreen subdivision.

A neighbor in a nearby apartment noticed smoke and flames coming from the home and called 911. Another neighbor had also seen the fire and ran to the front door to alert the family, and everyone was evacuated when crews arrived on the scene.

When firefighters arrived at the home, they found the side of the home ablaze. The side yard and backyard were also on fire. The fire had also spread to the backyard of the home beside them.

Fire crews from several stations responded and quickly had the blaze under control. The fire had burned through the siding of the home and damaged the wood structure underneath. Fortunately, the firefighters contained the blaze from breaking through into the inside of the home. The attic area did have some smoke damage.

The fire is believed to have started somewhere in the backyard area.

Responding to the scene were fire units from Aberdeen, Southern Pines, and Pinehurst, as well as Moore County EMS.
