A man was injured in a single-vehicle crash Sunday evening in Cameron. The crash happened just after 5 p.m. on Bass Road, about a half mile from N.C. Highway 24-27.Â
Authorities on scene told Sandhills Sentinel that the crash occurred when a Ford Crown Victoria was traveling south on Bass Road and entered a curve at a high rate of speed. The driver reportedly lost control and ran off the road at least once before spinning out and crashing into a tree on the opposite side of the road. The car hit the tree head-on, causing it to spin one more time before coming to rest with the rear of the car against another tree.
The car sustained significant damage. The high-speed impact caused several parts of the car to become dislodged and thrown several feet into the woods.
The male driver, who was the sole occupant, was transported to Moore Regional Hospital for treatment. His condition was not immediately available.
One lane of Bass Road was shut down while crews worked the scene and the vehicle was removed.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
Responding agencies included the Cypress Pointe Fire Department, Moore County EMS, and N.C. Highway Patrol.
